The Best Ways Of Getting To Bwindi National Park

The Best Ways Of Getting To Bwindi National Park

Situated 436 km south west of Uganda is the infamous impenetrable Bwindi forest , home of the Bwindi National park. Designated as a UNESCO heritage site due to the fact that it is home to over half the population of mountain gorillas shared by only 3 African countries in the world. Bwindi national park might be renowned for it’s exciting gorilla trekking safari adventures but make no mistake, this park has a lot of activities and attractions including up to 120 mammal species, 348 bird species, frogs, chameleons , butterfly , plant & tree species to mention but a few making it one of the most diverse rainforest in Africa.

Getting There

A self drive trip from Kampala city to Bwindi forest lasts about 8 and half hours using the Masaka Rd and Mbarara-Masaka Rd but will only last 2 hours if you are starting the safari from Kabale. Driving from Queen Elizabeth park to Bwindi lasts about 3 hours passing via Ishasha sector. Bwindi national park can also be accessed by air flying in from Entebbe and arriving at the Kisoro airstrip in just an hour.

Renting A Car

The most private and convenient way to get to Bwindi forest is by renting a car with a driver guide or for self drive. There are plenty of car rental companies offering a wide range of 4×4 cars for hire in Uganda at affordable rates based on unlimited mileage. Go online and search and compare prices plus trustworthiness through Facebook or google reviews, make sure to book a rental car that not only suits your budget and interests but can fit cargo and passengers comfortably as it will be a long journey to Bwindi forest. Some of the top rental cars you can hire for a self drive to Bwindi forest include the Land cruiser Prado, safari land cruiser, Rav4, tourist van to mention but a few. Book A Flight

Another convenient but most expensive way to get to Bwindi national park is by boarding a charter plane from Entebbe airport to Kisoro airstrip where you will be picked up by the company driver and taken to a lodge. Aero Link Uganda offers cheap charter flights for all types of travelers using only 1 hour to reach Kisoro, a flying trip gives tourists chance to get cool aerial views of the magnificent land scapes , water bodies as well local homesteads from the sky. You can book a flight to Bwindi with a travel agent or visit their offices at the Entebbe International Airport 2nd Flr, Passenger Terminal Building.

Board A bus

The cheapest way to get to Bwindi is by boarding a public passenger bus like Jaguar or the private bus that departs Kampala heading to Butogota daily. You can book a public bus ticket by purchasing a ticket at the bus terminals in Kisoro & Kampala. The road trip on a bus will take about 10 hours and is not the most comfortable ride you will have as you will be seated with locals and chances of loosing your property or luggage are very high. So we at 4×4 Car Hire Kampala highly recommend you get a private rental car in Uganda or book a flight to Bwindi forest.

Planning to safari Bwindi this season and still wondering how you will get there, choose from the above 3 private and public means. You can rent a car for a Bwindi road trip by simply sending an email to booking@4x4carhirekampala.com or call us now on +256779612466 to speak with the reservations team.
