Checklist For Your Next Car Rental In Uganda In 2024

Uganda is no newcomer in the travel world as it’s one of the most endowed countries on the African continent. 1- Driver’s Licence– Foreign tourists should present an International Driver’s License. The IDP or IDL allows motorists to drive within a foreign country and must be presented to the car rental agency. Locals have to present a Ugandan driver license with at least 3 years road experience to be allowed to drive a rental car in Uganda.

2- Identification – Another important item on the Uganda car rental checklist is identification items that include national ID, passport or company ID. Any person without any identification will not be allowed to drive any rental car and could face punishment from traffic officers if caught on the wrong side of the law.

3- Age & Experience – You should be above 23 years or age and not above 65 to be allowed to drive a rental car in Uganda on self drive adventure. You should have at least 3 years of driving experience as this is a sign that you know what you are doing and the car is capable safe hands.

4- Adhere to terms & conditions – Every Uganda car rental agency has its own terms and conditions which must be obeyed or risk getting penalized by the traffic officers as well as the company. Make sure you take the time to read through the dos and don’ts when driving a rental car and what to do incase a problem arises.

5- Printed proof of payment– Last but not least, you must have a printed document showing that you made a deposit for your rental such that incase any confusion arises, you have what to show to the company or authorities.
