This 8 days Uganda self-drive safari takes you through Mount Elgon East Africa’s highest mountain and 8th highest in Africa. This mountain stands at an altitude of 4321 meters and features the biggest volcanic base in the whole world approximately 4000 square kilometers with the biggest caldera in the world about 42 square kilometers. This tour also involves hiking through the Sipi falls, game drive in Kidepo Valley National Park and Murchison Falls National Park for big game and chimpanzee tracking in Budongo Forest Reserve

Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Departure from Kampala to Sipi Area and hike to the Sipi falls
Following breakfast early in the morning, you set off to the east of Uganda to Sipi Area and once you arrive, you will hike to the Sipi falls while catching a glimpse at the magnificent views of the surrounding areas. After, you will check-in at Sipi River Lodge, Lacam Lodge, Moses Campsite, or Crow’s Nest Camp Site.
Day 2: Hiking to Mount Elgon
Following breakfast in the morning, you will embark on a hike to Mount Elgon that stands at an altitude of 4321 meters, a volcano that features the biggest at the base at 4000 square kilometers. You will catch a glimpse at most of the beautiful mountain slopes that feature the most stunning flora and tropical forest prior to reaching the mountain vegetation especially the lobelia and groundsels as well as bird species. After, return to the lodge of your choice for a night stay at Mbale Resort Hotel, Mount Elgon Hotel, or Kapkwai Forest Cottages.
Day 3: Departure to Kidepo Valley National Park
Breakfast early in the morning and after, head to Kidepo National Park along with the stunning landscapes of Nakapiripirit, Moroto, Kotido that come with spectacular views of Mount Moroto prior to reaching Kaboong and Kidepo for dinner and night stay at Apoka Safari Lodge, Nga’ Moru Wilderness Camp, Kidepo Savannah Lodge or Apoka Rest Camp.
Day 4: Wildlife viewing in Kidepo Valley National Park
Following breakfast early in the morning, you head to spot wildlife species while on a game drive to Kanangorok hot spring. Kidepo National Park offers refuge to 86 species of mammals, 463 bird species, and many other wilderness species. After the game drive, you return to the lodge of your choice for dinner and a night stay at Apoka Safari Lodge, Nga’ Moru Wilderness Camp, Kidepo Savannah Lodge, or Apoka Resort Camp.
NB: If you have time, we can spend another day to visit the Ik endangered tribe found in the Morungole mountains
Day 5: Departure to Murchison Falls National Park
Breakfast early in the morning in your lodge, and embark on a journey to Murchison Falls National Park. Upon arrival at Murchison Falls National Park, you check-in at the lodge for dinner and night stay at Paraa Safari Lodge (upmarket), Pakuba Safari Lodge (Standard), or Heritage Safari Lodge (Budget).
Day 6: Wildlife viewing in Murchison Falls National Park
Have breakfast early in the morning and after set off for a wildlife viewing north of River Nile along the delta tracks which stretch west from the ferry jet at Paraa to Lake Albert Delta. You will have a chance to spot the lions, buffaloes, Jackson’s hartebeest, elephants, Rothschild giraffes, Oribis, leopards, birds, and others. Return to the lodge for lunch and set off for an afternoon boat cruise to the falls to sight at hippos, Nile crocodiles, and water birds and after, return to the lodge for dinner and night stay at Paraa safari lodge (luxury), Pakuba safari lodge (standard) or Heritage safari lodge (basic).
Day 7: Chimpanzee tracking in Budongo Forest and drive to Kampala
Following breakfast in the morning, you set off to Kaniyo Pabidi Forest in Budongo Forest for chimpanzee trekking plus forest birds like white thighed hornbill, chestnut winged starling, trogon, narina, and others. Return from the two to five hours chimpanzee trek and head to Nakitoma about seven kilometers to Ziwa rhino sanctuary to trek the white rhinos. After, return to the lodge for a night stay at Sheraton Kampala Hotel (luxury), Humura Resorts (standard), or Buziga country resort (Basic).
Day 8: Transfer to Kampala
Have breakfast in the morning at your respective lodge and after set off to Kampala, visit the Kabaka palace, Kasubi tomb site and this will mark the end of your 8 days wildlife safari in Uganda.
